From sign-up to a live site
Create an account, name your site, and it's on the web in minutes — with a full news CMS behind it and your own domain whenever you're ready.
1. Create your account
Head to the sign-up pageand enter your name, email, and a password. That single console account manages every site, domain, and teammate you add later — there's nothing else to install.
Once you're in, you can turn on two-factor authentication from Settings → Security. We recommend it: your console account is the key to all of your sites.
2. Create a site
From your dashboard, choose New site. You'll give it two things:
- 1A name. This is the display name of your publication — for example Riverside Daily News. You can change it any time.
- 2A slug. As you type the name we suggest a slug (a short, lowercase, URL-safe handle like
riverside). It becomes the first part of your free web address, and you can edit the suggestion before you create the site.
A few slugs are reserved (things like www, admin, mail), and each slug can only belong to one site — the form tells you right away if the one you picked is taken.
3. Pick a template
Your template decides what kind of site you're building:
- News Site — a full local-news CMS: articles, categories, events, weather, a newsletter, and ad tools. This is the default and what the rest of this guide describes.
- Deal Buddy — a local-deals storefront where businesses list offers and visitors save vouchers.
- Org Intranet — a private intranet for your organization: announcements, an employee directory, wiki pages, and an events calendar, all behind member sign-in.
- Event Buddy — a community events calendar with venues, featured listings, and public event submissions you approve.
- Contest Buddy — contests and voting: Best-of ballots and giveaways with email-verified voters.
- Business Directory — a categorized city guide of local businesses with featured placements and reader suggestions.
- Job Board— local employers and openings, with applications going to each employer's own link or email.
- Bid Buddy — a radio-auction site: donated items, timed bidding with an anti-snipe soft close, and a winners report.
- Station Site— your station's own website: shows, the weekly schedule, on-air staff, and podcast episodes.
- Brochure Site — a one-page small-business site with hero, services, hours, and a contact form.
- Form Buddy — a form builder: contest entries, registrations, and surveys, collected into an inbox with CSV export.
- ALTered Radio — coming soon, and shown disabled in the picker for now.
Create the site and Web Buddy provisions everything behind the scenes — for the template apps that includes switching on every included add-on from the Marketplace, so new sites start fully featured. You land on the site's overview page. One add-on needs a little more from you: the AI Assistant runs on your own Anthropic API key, pasted into the site's Add-ons card — where you can replace or remove it any time.
4. Your free test URL
Every site is instantly reachable at its own test address — your-slug.webbuddy.radioworkflow.com — with no DNS setup, no hosting, and no waiting. Building and previewing there is completely free.
The test address is derived from your slug, so renaming the slug moves the URL automatically. Test URLs are also marked noindex, so search engines won't list your work-in-progress — the moment to get indexed is when you connect your own domain.
5. Open your site admin
The console is where you manage the site(its address, billing, and team). The day-to-day writing and content editing happen in the site's own admin. On the site's overview page you'll find two buttons:
- Open site — views the live public site in a new tab.
- Open site admin— signs you straight into that site's admin in a new tab, with no second password. Your console tab stays put.
Behind the scenes this is a secure single sign-on handoff, so you never manage a separate login for each site. App-only templates — Spin Buddy, Air Buddy, and Display Buddy — have no public site, so their overview shows a single “Open” button that takes you straight into the application.
What you can do in a News site admin
A News site ships with a complete newsroom toolkit. The highlights:
- Articles — write, edit, and publish news stories with images and rich text; you can also pull stories in from RSS feeds and a WordPress import.
- Categories & regions — organize coverage into sections and geographic areas so readers can browse by topic or town.
- Weather— set your town in the site's settings and a local forecast widget appears on the site automatically.
- Events & community — a community calendar plus contests, school/business closings, obituaries, sports scores, and more.
- Newsletter — readers subscribe from the site, and you send a daily or weekly roundup of your latest stories.
- Ads & business listings — run ad campaigns, take ad orders, and maintain a local business directory to earn revenue.
- Branding & settings — set the site name, logo, tagline, brand color, and weather location; everything applies site-wide the moment you save.
